Portals doesn’t collect data about you or your work. Your agents, files and conversations stay on computers you own. There are no analytics, no ads and no tracking.
The apps
Portals for iPhone, iPad and Mac talks to your own computers running Portals host, over your Tailscale network, and to the Portals relay, for notifications. The Mac app downloaded from GitHub also checks GitHub for updates, and gets them from there. The computers you add, their passwords and your settings are kept on your device, the passwords in its Keychain.
Portals host
Portals host runs on your Mac or Linux computer and runs your agents (Claude Code, Codex and others) with your own accounts. Your conversations, files and settings stay on that computer, and go only to the AI providers you use, under their terms. Once a day it asks the npm registry whether a newer version exists, which you can turn off in its settings.
Notifications and the relay
To notify your iPhone, iPad or Mac, your computer hands a notification to the Portals relay, which we run on Cloudflare and which passes it to Apple. The words of a notification are encrypted on your computer and can only be read on your device: the relay can’t read them, and keeps no notification. It logs what it decided, such as sent or refused, never a token or what a notification says.
When your device can’t reach your computer directly, the relay can also carry the connection between them. What passes is encrypted between your device and your computer, so the relay can’t read it. All it keeps is a fingerprint (a hash) of your computer’s relay secret.
This website
The form for joining the alpha has closed. If you signed up while it was open, we still keep what you sent: your email address, your X handle, which devices you have and what you wrote, in a database on Cloudflare. We use it only to reach you about Portals, and we never share or sell it. Cloudflare handles the requests that serve this site.
TestFlight
Apple runs TestFlight. If you choose to, it shares crash reports and the feedback you send with us, underApple’s privacy policy.
